Old Owls, a Bunny and more..

On my bed I keep three little handsewn owls and a little grey rabbit! I made these about two years ago. The two small owls are made out of felt, the larger one is made of cotton fabrics whilst the grey rabbit is made of wool! I also made three of the cushions you see (the patchwork one, the green lacey one and the other pink one next to dark pink one which i didn't make) I'd already posted a picture of my little owls and bunny at the beginning of the blog - but I thought I'd share them again with all you lovely new visitors!

Sul mio letto ho tre gufini cuciti a mano e un coniglietto grigio! Li ho cuciti circa due anni fa. I due gufini piccoli sono di feltro, quello più grande è di cotone mentre il coniglietto grigio è tutto di lana! Ho anche fattto tre dei cucini che vedete (quello a patchwork, quello di pizzo verde e quello rosa chiaro vicino a quello rosa scuro che però non ho fatto io) Avevo già postato una foto dei gufetti e coniglio all'inizio del blog - ma ho pensato di riproporli ai cari nuovi visitatori!

I adore them because they're yummy, cute, red and just the sight of them makes me happy!
I even painted strawberries on a big limoge box for my mum. Here below is a picture (it is more or less the actual size).

*Porcelain Painting* with J.A.Walsh

I'm always inspired by Joan Anglund Walsh. Her books are so darling.. She is one of my favourite illustrators.

I couldn't resist painting myself a little heart porcelain box with one of her little characters on it. The box is very small (only 3cm wide) and the inside detail is a very small sewing kit ;)

Mi ispira sempre l'arte di Joan Anglund Walsh. I suoi libri sono deliziosi.. E' una delle mie illustratrici preferite. Non potevo non dipingermi una piccola scatolina di limoge a forma di cuore con uno dei suoi personaggini. La scatola è molto piccola (solo 3cm di larghezza) e c'é un dettaglio all'interno: ho dipinto un piccolo kit cucito ;)

Why is my blog bilingual?

People often ask me: "Why is your blog bilingual?"
The answer is very simple.. I'm bilingual. Writing in both Italian and English brings out who I am. I'm an 100% Italian who lived abroad for many, many years as a child flying between states.
Certain Creatures first started off to keep my foreign friends up to date with all the crafty things I make and only recently has it turned into something more. I really enjoy this new *adventure*, meeting new crafty people and sharing creativity, ideas and inspiration.

Molti spesso mi chiedono: "Perché il tuo blog è bilingue?"
La risposta è semplice, sono bilingue. Scrivere sia in italiano che in inglese fa risaltare come sono. Sono 100% italiana ma ho vissuto anni e anni all'estero.
Certain Creatures all'inizio era un "posto" dove i miei amici che vivono all'estero potevano venire a vedere tutte le mie novità artistiche di cui sentivano parlare al telefono.. solo ora è diventato qualcosa in più. Mi piace molto questa nuova *avventura*, conoscere nuove persone crafty e condividere creatività, idee e ispirazione.

CottonTail Eggwarmer*CottonCoda Scaldauovo

I really enjoy soft boiled eggs! Not so much the store bought eggs .. I mean the ones that come from the farm. When soft boiled they are gorgeous! :)
So I sewed a little rabbit "CottonTail" to keep eggy warm whilst he's waiting to be eaten. It's kind of eastery looking .. but I have other versions in mind! You'll see those soon!

Mi piacciono moltissimo le uova alla coque! Non tanto quelle fatte con le uova del supermercato.. quanto quelle che arrivano direttamente dal contadino. Quando fatte alla coque sono squisite! :)
Quindi ho cucito un piccolo coniglietto "CottonCoda" per tenere al caldino l'ovino mentre aspetta di essere mangiato. Ha l'aria un pò pasquale.. ma ne ho altre versioni in mente! Le vedrete presto!

This is exam time for me so there is very little time to craft! Although I always have to find at least a second a day for arts&crafts and music because that makes everyday even better :)
So as you can see I've been making more earrings! The ones from last time are almost all gone after the holidays! So I had to make more ...

Do you like honey? I do.. especially this kind from The Woods Cove Gardens! My friend Maddy has bees and this honey of hers is unique! You can see how she harvests it here! Plus her honey jar labels are the cutest, don't you think?!

*Birdhouses, Notebook and Papersource*

It's still cold here! It's snowing and I love the snow! Here are some wooden birdhouses I painted with acrylics! I absolutely adore tiny dots and so I went tiny-dot-crazy on these! :) They are almost as big as they look in their individual photos: all of them are more or less 7cm x 10cm.

Qui fa ancora molto freddo! Continua a nevicare e Adoro la neve! Ecco alcune casette di legno per gli uccelli che ho dipinto con gli acrilici! Ho la passione per i poix piccolissimi e qui si vede! :) Le casine sono grandi circa come le vedete nelle foto individuali: tutte più o meno 7cm x 10cm.

Poi ho decorato molto semplicemente un quadernetto di stoffa rosa incollandoci sopra un uccellino rosa (ritaglio di giornale) e della serpentina, nastri e bottoni.. e ho aggiunto delle tag in modo da creare separatori tra alcune pagine.

I decorated a pink notebook with pink fabric, cutouts, rickrack, buttons.. I also added some tags on the side of a couple pages to divide the notebook into categories.

Mushroom Porcelain Boxes

Hi there!
Today I wanted to share with you some pictures of these tiny "Mushroom" limoge boxes. I handpainted them a while ago. They aren't meant to be mushrooms, I guess you can paint them whatever way you like. I thought painting them like mushrooms would be fun. They are so small you can't even fit a penny inside but that is what makes them really cute I think!

Oggi volevo condividere con voi alcune foto di queste minuscole scatoline di limoge a "Funghetto". Le ho dipinte a mano un pò di tempo fa. Non sono fatte a posta per essere dipinte come funghi, uno può dipingerle come desidera. Appena le ho viste ho pensato che sarebbero state perfette dipinte a funghino! Sono piccolissime, non ci sta dentro nemmeno un euro ma secondo me la loro dimensione le rende ancora più carine!

Mini*Mouse*Pincushion*Tutorial

Traduzione in italiano in fondo

In Italiano:

1- Posizionate a1 e b in questa maniera. Assicuratevi che le punte combacino.

2- Girate e cucite insieme i due pezzi. Quando cominciate a cucire assicuratevi che le punte combacino e mentre cucite, gradualmente piegate a1 facendo seguire ad a1 la curva che fa b.

3- Non cucite fino alla fine

4- Ripetete lo stesso procedimento per a2.

5- Questo è quello che dovrebbe risultarvi una volta che avete cucito a1 e a2 alla base b.

6- Adesso cucite a1 e a2 insieme.

7- Questo è come sarà una volta che avete cucito le tre parti. Ora risvoltatelo.

8- Incominciate a riempirlo di imbottitura soffice.

9- Posizionate la codina e aggiungete altra imbottitura.

10- Cucite bene la parte terminale.

11- Posizionate le orecchie e cucitele insieme così risultano simmetriche.

12- Cucite anche gli occhi allo stesso tempo così risultano simmetrici.

13- Per rendere questo passaggio più semplice, una volta inserito l’ago non passate il filo interamente fino a farlo scomparire. Lasciatene visibile una puntina che sarà il vostro riferimento quando dovrete ripassare con l’ago.

14- Cucite il naso e aggiungete i baffetti. Per fare i baffi usate lo stesso procedimento che avete seguito per gli occhi: passate l’ago…

15- ..tenete il riferimento e ripassate l’ago dallo stesso punto..

16- ..e poi tagliate la lunghezza del baffo desiderata. (dovrete compiere questa azione due volte, una volta per un baffo e una volta per l’altro)

17- Ecco il topino finito! Divertitevi! Con affetto, Francesca
