Passion for painting

I wish I had more time to paint..but life just gets too busy at times. This week I managed to sit down and paint and this was the result.. It was fun and I want to paint more soon..

*Sew Mini* - Birdie Box

Remember the original Sew*Mini?
Here is the new version: Sew*Mini Birdie Box :) (only 7cm wide and 5cm high)

Ecco la nuova versione: Sew*Mini Birdie Box :) (è larga 7cm e alta 5cm)

There are 12 spools inside, a thimble, 6 pins and 2 flower pins, one needle, a felt bird sticker decoration, and two pincushions (the green one and the tiny strawberry)... lots in one little box!

All'interno ci sono 12 rocchetti, un ditale, 6 spilli e 2 spilli fiore, un ago, uno sticker decorativo a uccellino e due puntaspilli (quello verde e la fragolina).. tanto in una scatolina così piccina!

I painted the wooden box inside and out with acrylic paints,
and added a bit of gloss on the outside.

e ho aggiunto un pò di gloss all'esterno.

*Porcelain Painting* with J.A.Walsh

I'm always inspired by Joan Anglund Walsh. Her books are so darling.. She is one of my favourite illustrators.

I couldn't resist painting myself a little heart porcelain box with one of her little characters on it. The box is very small (only 3cm wide) and the inside detail is a very small sewing kit ;)

Mi ispira sempre l'arte di Joan Anglund Walsh. I suoi libri sono deliziosi.. E' una delle mie illustratrici preferite. Non potevo non dipingermi una piccola scatolina di limoge a forma di cuore con uno dei suoi personaggini. La scatola è molto piccola (solo 3cm di larghezza) e c'é un dettaglio all'interno: ho dipinto un piccolo kit cucito ;)

Why is my blog bilingual?

People often ask me: "Why is your blog bilingual?"
The answer is very simple.. I'm bilingual. Writing in both Italian and English brings out who I am. I'm an 100% Italian who lived abroad for many, many years as a child flying between states.
Certain Creatures first started off to keep my foreign friends up to date with all the crafty things I make and only recently has it turned into something more. I really enjoy this new *adventure*, meeting new crafty people and sharing creativity, ideas and inspiration.

Molti spesso mi chiedono: "Perché il tuo blog è bilingue?"
La risposta è semplice, sono bilingue. Scrivere sia in italiano che in inglese fa risaltare come sono. Sono 100% italiana ma ho vissuto anni e anni all'estero.
Certain Creatures all'inizio era un "posto" dove i miei amici che vivono all'estero potevano venire a vedere tutte le mie novità artistiche di cui sentivano parlare al telefono.. solo ora è diventato qualcosa in più. Mi piace molto questa nuova *avventura*, conoscere nuove persone crafty e condividere creatività, idee e ispirazione.

Rain*Rain

What a day! It's foggy, rainy, wet and cold! But I sort of like it! I love snuggling up by the fireplace in this weather and knitting whilst eating chestnuts or listening to Vivaldi, Puccini, Beethoven! I love classical music..! I'm knitting a small blanket for naps! ;) well, maybe it's more like I'm knitting lots of little squares that I'll then sew together to make a multi-coloured banket. I'm not sure how long it will take me but I'm loving it!
Che giornata! C'è la nebbia, piove, e fa freddo! Ma mi piace anche così! Adoro stare difonte al camino quando c'è questo tempo e fare la maglia mentre mangio le castagne o ascolto Vivaldi, Puccini, Beethoven! Che bella la musica classica..! Sto lavorando a maglia; tanti piccoli quadratini che formeranno un pannetto multicolore appena li cucio tutti insieme! Mi diverte un bel pò!

Owls and The Weekend

Here is some little owl sketching I've been up to lately. I love owls since forever. This weekend I went away with friends to a very pretty place and I took pictures of things I liked (see below).
Ecco alcuni miei disegnini di gufetti. Adoro i gufi da anni ormai.. Questo fine settimana sono stata via con amici in un posto molto bello e ho fotografato alcune cose che mi piacevano (vedi sotto).

Collage work

I did some collage work starting from a magazine for a project with PinkPebble. The project was to make collages on thin cardboard or any other paper base (21cm x 24 cm). There were a few rules such as : you can only use the paper from the magazine, ribbons, stamps, chipboards, rub-ons and any kind of paint, pen or pencil. I actually just used cutouts and a black pen. I mainly focused on an idea or message in both.. and worked around that.

Ho fatto un pò di collage per un progetto insieme a PinkPebble! Il progetto era di farnealcune su cartoncino o qualsiasi altro tipo di base (21cmx24cm). C'erano anche alcune regole per esempio: usare solo ritagli del giornale, nastri, timbri, chipboards, trasferelli e colori o matite di ogni genere. Io alla fine ho usato solo ritagli e una biro nera. Mi sono concentrata soprattutto su un'idea o un messaggio.. e ho sviluppato tutto partendo da lì.

Invece questo parla un pochino di me.

I love stories old and new.. I love reading and listening to them. I adore the past and everything that was. This makes me a little nostalgic at times but with a constant push forward.
Io adoro le storie vecchie e nuove.. adoro leggerle e ascoltarle. Adoro il passato e tutto ciò che fu. Questo mi rende un pò nostalgica a volte ma con una costante spinta in avanti.

Sotto ci sono disegnini di bimbette che ho chiamato Cry Babies (significa piagnucoline). Saranno un leit motiv futuro dato che ho la mente pregna di idee che hanno a che fare con queste creaturine! ;) vedrete! Bottoni! oggi ne ho trovati di coloratissimi a pochissimo!
