Restore a fresco * Restauro un affresco

Hi friends!

This post is dedicated to by far my biggest creative project: transforming a small 19th century lady's bathing room into a cosy  and little miniature home library.

Ciao amici!

Questo post è dedicato a sicuramente il mio più grande lavoro creativo realizzato fino ad ora: trasformare una piccola sala da bagno femminile di fine ottocento in un'accogliente e minuscola bibliotechina.  

The most challenging part was restoring the fresco. I have to admit that the first day I was already about to give up. I was finding it too difficult to find the right match of colours that kept drying either too dark or too light. A few days later I tried again and I don't know how, somehow, I "found the key"!

La parte più difficile é stata restaurare gli affreschi. Devo ammettere che il primo giorno savo già per arrendermi. Era troppo difficile trovare i colori giusti che ad ogni stesura asciugavano o troppo chiari o troppo scuri. Un paio di giorni dopo ho deciso di tenare per l'ultima volta e non so come, ma "ho trovato la chiave"!

 It took me over a month and a half's weekends to actually completely restore all of the four walls and ceiling but at the end the result was rewarding at least to my eyes.

Ci ho impiegato un mese e mezzo di weekend per finire di restaurare tutti e quattro i muri e il soffitto ma il risultato finale mi ha ripagato, almeno ai miei occhi.

 I painted the doors....

Ho dipinto le porte...

 ...I found the curtains...

..ho trovato le tende..

 ..I hung up some watercolours..

 ..ho appeso degli acquerelli..

...and found a home for my books.

..e ho trovato una casa per i miei libri.

 I am very happy of how this little room turned out.

Sono molto contenta di come si è trasformata questa piccola stanza.

Under you can see the state one of the walls was in when I started - the others, further away from the vapors of the steaming bath water and heater, were in much better conditions thank goodness.

Pink

I enjoy very much setting the table when guests come over for lunch or dinner. I like to add candles and fresh flowers to make it colourful and special. I picked these peonies and roses from my garden!

Mi piace molto apparecchiare la tavola per gli ospiti che vengono a pranzo o a cena. Mi piace aggiungere candele e fiori freschi per rendere il tutto colorato e speciale. Ho raccolto queste peonie e queste rose dal mio giardino!

Plus, these days I can't seem to resist this tint of pink!

Il tempo vola! 

Eccomi qui!!

Questo mio piccolo angolino che si chiama Certain Creatures è un posto dove mi piace condividere le mie passioni per il DIY e la fotografia, mostrare le cose che trovo interessanti e che mi piacciono, ma è anche uno sprone per me per ritagliarmi momenti creativi nonostante il lavoro, una casa e le mille cose da fare.. 

Da blogger seguo altri blog bellissimi e mi rendo conto che faccio fatica a seguirli come vorrei. Mi spiego meglio.. ho il mio elenco di blog preferiti che vado periodicamente a leggere traendone ispirazione ma a volte per la fretta mi dimentico di lasciare un commento! Un commento sembra poco ma è tanto per un/una blogger... Sono proprio i commenti a tenere vivo quel piccolo angolo in internet fatto di sogni e di passioni. E' sapere che c'é qualcuno che ti legge e a cui interessa ciò che pubblichi a darti la carica per nuovi post!

Quindi il mio obiettivo della settimana e di quelle future è proprio quello di lasciare più spesso un segno del mio passaggio! Come è importante per me lo è anche per altre blogger!

Happy week!

Here are some shots I took this weekend.

Unfortunately there hasn't been much time for crafts lately! I'm extremely busy at work.. For this reason I've decided to post twice a week for a while: new posts will be on every Monday and Thursday! Hopefully I'll be able to post more in the future!

Having a blog helps me stop from the daily routine and let myself be creative. Having a blog wouldn't be the same without it having readers, so if I blog it's also thanks to you who come and visit and leave comments which are the most important fuel for a blogger. Thank you from the heart!

I try to visit all of you who leave a trace here.. sometimes I'm a little late but I make it in the end!

Ecco alcuni scatti che ho fatto questo weekend.

Purtroppo non c'é stato tanto tempo per fare i crafts! Sono presissima dal lavoro.. Per questo ho deciso di aggiornare il blog due volte la settimana: ci saranno sempre nuovi post i lunedì e i giovedì! Spero in futuro di riprendere a pieno ritmo!

Avere un blog mi aiuta a ritagliare un momento creativo tutto mio durante la settimana. Avere un blog non sarebbe lo stesso senza voi lettori che lo animate con le visite e lasciando i commenti. Il segno del vostro passaggio è importante per me e mi dà la spinta per continuare! Grazie di cuore!

Cerco sempre di fare visita a chi mi lascia un commento o una email.. a volte arrivo tardi ma arrivo!

My Craftroom...to be!

In my house there is an attic. The entrance to the attic is this small antique door you see in the picture above with the little cute lamp beside it. When you open the door there is a room.... and I desire this room to become my craftroom some day!

A casa mia ho una soffitta. L'entrata della soffitta è questa piccola porta antica che vedete in alto con di fianco quel lampioncino delizioso. Quando aprite la porta c'è una stanza... e desidero tanto che questa stanza diventi un giorno la mia craftroom!

There are lots of things to be done..buy a desk and some shelves, set up a heating system for the winter and an air conditioning system for the summer. It will take a long time seen we still have to finish furnishing our house downstairs but it's on the "to do" list and I'm already shopping around for furniture!

Ci sono tante cose che vanno fatte..comprare una scrivania e delle mensole, installare il riscaldamento per l'inverno e l'aria condizionata per l'estate. Ci vorrà del tempo visto che abbiamo anche da finire di ammobiliare casa nostra, ma è sulla lista delle cose da fare e mi sto già guardando intorno per i mobili!

 It's an attic, but the ceilings are high and in this room they might change colour!

E' una soffitta, ma i soffitti sono alti e forse in questa stanza cambieranno colore!

I love to daydream about all this!

Tea Party

The other day I had a tea party with some friends. Having just moved into the new house and not ever having had one before, I often feel like I'm still missing something: either a certain type of plate or glass or pot... I guess that with time I shall manage to be well equipped!

Never mind this! The tea party went very well and my friends enjoyed it. I think there will be many ones to come.

L'altro giorno ho presto il thé con amici. Essendomi appena trasferita nella casa nuova a non avendo mai avuto una casa tutta mia prima d'ora, spesso mi capita che mi manchino delle cose: o un certo tipo di piatto o bicchiere o vaso... Immagino ci voglia tempo e col tempo mi rifornirò di tutto!

Beh, nonostante questo agli amici è piaciuto molto e penso si ripeterà.. ci saranno altri tea parties prima o poi!

Finishing off!

The home is being finished off.. what we need to do now is decide where the furniture goes and what furniture we need to buy. This is the part I like best because it's when the house is brought to life!

La casa sta per essere terminata.. quel che dobbiamo fare ora è decidere dove vanno i mobili e quali mobili dobbiamo acquistare. E' la parte che preferisco perché è portare in vita la casa ora vuota!

The house is full of light.. under here you can see a sneak peek of the bathroom which still has to be finished!

We have a big long antique mirror to hang somewhere.. It's on the floor right now - the other day I had so much fun taking these photos :)

Abbiamo un lungo specchio antico da appendere da qualche parte.. E' per terra al momento - l'altro giorno mi sono divertita a fare questi scatti :)

She paints...

It is so much fun to get the new house ready! Last weekend I painted a bit and it was so much fun! The walls are being painted now, soon the kitchen will arrive and I can't wait for the bathroom to be finished! I hope to post pictures of all of it soon!

Home again...

Planning a new home takes up so much of your time!

Pianificare una nuova casa prende così tanto tempo!

It's like an adventure with so many choices..it's fun and difficult at times but the result is always rewarding! At least for me.. :)

E' come un'avventura con tante scelte..è divertente e difficile a volte ma il risultato ripaga sempre! Almeno per me... :)

We are restyling everything with nice light colours and we are very lucky because we also have some antique pieces that I think are great to mix in with the fresh modern look..

Stiamo riastrutturando tutto usando prevalentemente colori chiari e siamo fortunati perché abbiamo anche alcuni mobili antichi che secondo me sono belli in un contesto moderno..

I can't wait for the kitchen to arrive! It will be white, of course (see the picture below)!!!

HOME...work
