Restore a fresco * Restauro un affresco

Hi friends!

This post is dedicated to by far my biggest creative project: transforming a small 19th century lady's bathing room into a cosy  and little miniature home library.

Ciao amici!

Questo post è dedicato a sicuramente il mio più grande lavoro creativo realizzato fino ad ora: trasformare una piccola sala da bagno femminile di fine ottocento in un'accogliente e minuscola bibliotechina.  

The most challenging part was restoring the fresco. I have to admit that the first day I was already about to give up. I was finding it too difficult to find the right match of colours that kept drying either too dark or too light. A few days later I tried again and I don't know how, somehow, I "found the key"!

La parte più difficile é stata restaurare gli affreschi. Devo ammettere che il primo giorno savo già per arrendermi. Era troppo difficile trovare i colori giusti che ad ogni stesura asciugavano o troppo chiari o troppo scuri. Un paio di giorni dopo ho deciso di tenare per l'ultima volta e non so come, ma "ho trovato la chiave"!

 It took me over a month and a half's weekends to actually completely restore all of the four walls and ceiling but at the end the result was rewarding at least to my eyes.

Ci ho impiegato un mese e mezzo di weekend per finire di restaurare tutti e quattro i muri e il soffitto ma il risultato finale mi ha ripagato, almeno ai miei occhi.

 I painted the doors....

Ho dipinto le porte...

 ...I found the curtains...

..ho trovato le tende..

 ..I hung up some watercolours..

*

 ..ho appeso degli acquerelli..

...and found a home for my books.

..e ho trovato una casa per i miei libri.

 I am very happy of how this little room turned out.

Sono molto contenta di come si è trasformata questa piccola stanza.

Under you can see the state one of the walls was in when I started - the others, further away from the vapors of the steaming bath water and heater, were in much better conditions thank goodness.

DIY Flower watercolour - Dipingi da te fiori con acquerelli

If you like these flowers and want to try to paint them yourself, here is the step by step photo tutorial. 

You need:

-watercolours

-a thin brush

-a glass of clean water

Let's start the first coat.

Se vi piacciono questi fiori e volete provare a dipingerli voi seguite questo tutorial fotografico.

Vi serve:

-un pennello fine

-gli acquerelli

-bicchiere di acqua pulita

Incominciamo la prima mano.

Tip: use light colours to start with, you can shade the flower when you add the second coat.

Consiglio: usate colori tenui, potete scurire il fiore quando date la seconda mano.

Paint five petals for the main flower, three for the opening one and one for the bud.

Dipingete cinque petali per il fiore, tre per quello che sta per aprirsi e uno per il bocciolo.

Draw a stem with a light green.

*

Disegnate lo stelo con un verde chiaro.

Add some leaves with the same light green.

*

Aggiungete delle foglie con lo stesso verde chiaro.

Add darker green on top but leave some of the light green and white to give light to the leaves.

*

Aggiungete del verde scuro alle foglie ma lasciate del verde chiaro e bianco per dare luce alle foglie.

Do the same with darker blue for the petals.

*

Fate lo stesso per il blu scuro dei petali.

Add the yellow centre leaving light in the middle.

*

Aggiungete il giallo lasciando la luce al centro.

Put a dot of orange in the very middle to create some shade...

...and your flower is complete.

Metete una punta di arancione al centro per creare dell'ombra...

...e il tuo fiore è completo.

You can create a flower wreath by painting the same flower in different colours like in the picture below.

Potete creare una ghirlanda di fiori dipingendo lo stesso fiore in colori diversi come nell'immagine qui sotto.

To make the wreath fuller, add more leaves.

*

Per riempire la ghirlanda aggiungete foglie.

She paints...

It is so much fun to get the new house ready! Last weekend I painted a bit and it was so much fun! The walls are being painted now, soon the kitchen will arrive and I can't wait for the bathroom to be finished! I hope to post pictures of all of it soon!

Robin*Pettirosso

I had to find something cute to paint on the smallest canvas ever! Robins are such tiny and adorable creatures... and this time I am really happy with my painting! Off to paint and craft some more now that there is lots of time! til soon!

Poppies*Papaveri

I finally finished the poppies I was working on for three days! It wasn't easy and I'm only really satisfied with the colour palette.. I still have to work more on the shading which is quite tricky for someone like me who has never taken a painting class!

Ho finalmente finito i papaveri a cui stavo lavorando da tre giorni! Non è stato facile! Sono soddisfatta della gamma di colori ma devo assolutamente acquisire pratica nelle luci e nelle ombre che sono così difficili per me che non ho mai nemmeno fatto un corso di pittura!

Now I'm off to paint more.. I have a new project in mind..actually two! I'll post about them soon! Happy start of the week!
